 Yerevan State University Ijevan branch announces a competition for the Department Head following vacant positions:

  1. Head of Department of Programming and Information Technologies,
  2. Head of Department of General Mathematics and Natural Sciences,
  3. Head of Department of Armenian History and Social Science,
  4. Head of Department of Armenian Language and Literature,
  5. Head of Department of Pedagogy and Psychology,
  6. Head of Department of English Language and Literature,
  7. Head of Department of French Language and Literature,
  8. Head of Department of Tourism Management and Cultural Studies,
  9. Head of Department of General Economics,
  10. Head of Department of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design,
  11. Head of Department of Painting and Sculpture.

The Head of Department position is optional and YSU IB announces an open competition.

Candidates, who are an associate professor or have a doctoral degree or a scientific degree, are eligible for competition. Exceptions are the candidates for heads of department of arts, who must be members of the Union of Artists of Armenia or the Union of Designers of Armenia. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree can take part in the competition for the position of the head of the department for the second time only with the Director’s permission. Candidates with a scientific degree of candidate of sciences are forbidden to participate in the competition for the position for the third time.

Candidates of Department Head position must have at least 7 years of scientific and pedagogical work experience and monographs, textbooks or at least 5 articles published in the last 5 years, approved by the RA Higher Qualification Commission.

Exceptions are the candidates of Head of Department of arts, who must have at least 10 years of scientific and pedagogical work experience and have participated in republican or international exhibitions for the last 5 years.

DEVOTED TO THE HONORED AND BELOVED LECTURER MR. VARDANYAN, WITH RESPECT AND GRATITUDE AND WITH EXPECTATION TO MEET AGAIN

On October 18 of 2018, YSU Ijevan branch organized appreciation day in honor of Khachatur Vardanyan, the honored lecturer of the branch, the literary critic, experienced educator, Ph.D., associate professor.

The event was attended by Acting Director of Yerevan State University Foundation Ijevan branch, A. V. Cuculyan, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities K. Poghosyan, Acting Head of the Department of Armenian Language and Literature V. Avagyan, representatives of the professorial staff of the Department, students of different courses of “Armenian Language and Literature” Department, graduates who were Mr. Vardanyan’s students and today they are lecturers of the same department.

Prior to the event, the beloved lecturer read an interesting lecture on “Armenian Language and Literature” for students, touching upon the aesthetic perceptions of human, beauty, kindness, truth, and the meaning and mission of the human being, bringing about interesting examples and facts about Armenian and foreign writers, gave lectures on literary topics offered by the students: Raffi (Samvel’s spiritual experiences), Daniel Varuzhan, Paruyr Sevak (“Sulamita”) and others.

Afterwards, Acting Director of YSU IB A.V. Cuculyan, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, K. Poghosyan, Head of the Department of Armenian Language and Literature V. Avagyan, lecturers of the Department, M. Sarukhanyan, A.Hasanyan, A. Adamyan delivered speech of appreciation and gratitude in connection with the huge contribution of Mr. Vardanyan.

Cuculyan in his speech underlining the personality traits of Mr. Vardanyan, mentioned: “I’m very happy and thankful that I know you, and I have the honor to be your young friend, your young partner and one of your acquaintances … Accept our heartfelt words of gratitude to you, as wise, as a highly professional person who has made a great contribution to the branch with his personal and professional qualities. Thank you”.

Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities K. Poghosyan in her speech particularly mentioned: “Vardanyan has always motivated by his lectures to study and absorb in literature. I must say that Mr. Vardanyan infected with his great enthusiasm and passion all his colleagues. We also learn and take something new in our conversations with Mr. Vardanyan every time … I wish Mr. Vardanyan great creative achievements that his unfinished initiatives can be accomplished, health, youthful desire (that he has) and vigor … And let’s hope that such meetings with students will be continuous, because our students have a lot to learn and take from him.

The lecturer of the Department of Armenian Language and Literature, A. Adamyan,who has been one the best students of Mr. Vardanyan, made very emotional and influential speech.

“… The whole color world of one of his favorite authors, Avetik Isahakyan’s writings, live in his soul, and with those colors he always beautified and flourished our days when he was in Ijevan. … He is simply an incomparable beauty bearer, a person with a beautiful soul, and we are really very excited and very sad … Although Mr. Vardanyan will not be in Ijevan, but I think that this relationship should not be cut, because the presence of Mr. Vardanyan will always be for us desirable.

I wish you good luck, Mr. Vardanyan, and most importantly, the energy you always have (I think it will always stay), I want you to live long, too many years, and it will be so because it’s all our desire, we love you very much, I love you very much, and I’m really excited that now I am telling you these words… wishing you happiness, health, and always be with us, you are always with us, we love you so much, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

The fourth year students of “the Armenian language and literature” faculty also presented essays devoted to their beloved lecturer; here is one of those essays:

 

“It’s autumn … Colorful fairy tale … But our hearts and souls are not filled with Teryan sadness and sorrow, but  with Vardanyan love, warmth, life and prosperity, a person who can be called great patriot and a well-known literary critic,or simply Armenian, whose literary heritage is flawless in his uniqueness and Armenian features.

Khachatur Vardanyan, a name that cannot be said without love and infinite pride.

“Our dear Mr.Vardanyan, You are not just a lecturer for us, and your lessons are not simply lectures. Tumanyan, Isahakyan, Teryan and Varuzhan entered the classroom with you. The beautiful nature of Lori has blossomed with your lips, reconsidered the last spring of life, the golden dream of life in the twilight, the imagination and spirit of the Armenian past epoch live in your soul.

There is so much thing to say, and we have so much desire to describe our emotions and impressions, our delicate and pure love for you … Love and devotion, which will be forever, will forever last for centuries … “(faculty of “Armenian language and literature” IV year student Nara Martirosyan).

 

At the end of the event, Mr. Vardanyan received one of the works of students of the faculty of “Applied Art” on behalf of the directorate.

YSU IJEVAN BRANCH DIRECTORATE SESSION OF OCTOBER 17

On October 17 of 2018, directorate session was held at Ijevan branch of Yerevan State University Foundation headed by A. V. Cuculyan.

On the agenda were the results of YSU IB 2018 academic year part-time learning admission, preparation for part-time learning courses of the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year, September expenses and incomes of the branch, issues connected with security, steps against plagiarism, as well as sending several staff members of the University to the Berd region for trainings (particularly members of Department of Professional Orientation and Practice), replenishment of YSUIB Library fund and a number of current issues.

Summarizing the results of 2018 academic year the admission process of part-time learning, A. Margaryan ,who was in charge of YSUIB part-time learning university admission committee, specifically mentioned that in 2018, from August 27 to September 25 (scheduled for September 20, extended for 5 days) the admission of applicants for part-time learning system was implemented at YSU IB.

133 applicants applied to YSU Ijevan branch, for 7 specialties (Elementary Pedagogy and Methodology, History, Finance (according to the field), Psychology, Environment and Nature Management, Informatics and Applied Mathematics, Tourism).

Prior to the admission examinations, YSU IB leading Lecturers have conducted free consultations for each subject. The admission exams has overcome with minimum results 40 out of 133 applicants, which, of course, was not satisfactory.

Head of the part-time Learning Department M. Zurabyan, mentioned that the schedule of all specializations was being compiled, the whole classroom fund was being worked out, the necessary work was being done to properly meet the 2018-19 academic year.

Mr. Cuculyan instructed the deans of faculties and the Head of the Department of part-time learning to be consistent that the heads of departments and the educational programs responsibles, actively take part in issues related to the organization of the lesson.

In connection with the issue of sending several staff members of the University to the Berd region for trainings, it was particularly mentioned that on October 16, a group of employees met with 194 pupils from 11 Berd schools to raise public awareness on admission education programs.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce YSU IB specialties to the 12th graders, changes in admission exams and proposed new programs.

Head of YSU IB library V. Poghosyan reported on the process of replenishment of the library fund of 2018-2019 academic years and assured that the events held by the library would be regular and periodic.

“LECTURER-STUDENT” INTELLECTUAL GAME HELD AT YSU IJEVAN BRANCH

In 2018, on October 16, at the initiative of YSU IB Student Scientific Society and Student Council, Gohar Mkhitaryan, a second-year student of “Armenian Language and Literature” Faculty conducted an intellectual game entitled “Lecturer-student”.

The members of the jury were the lecturer of the Department of History and Social Sciences, Vladimir Poghosyan, the third- year student of the “History” Department, Larida Ghazumyan and the third year student of the Department of “Economics” Sose Khachatryan.

The friendly game took place between two teams.

The lecturers’ team included 6 faculty lecturers, Azatyan Ara (lecturer of the Department of History and Social Sciences), Atoyan Mher (Associate Professor of the Department of General Mathematics and Natural Sciences), Otaryan Knar (lecturer of the Department of Programming and Information Technology), Saribekyan Anush (Lecturer of the Department of General Economics), Tsaturyan Syuzanna (Computer Operator of the Faculty of Natural Sciences), Amirzyan Mary (lecturer of the Department of General Mathematics and Natural Sciences).

Students from different faculties and specialties took part in a game: Nazaryan Lavrent (Department of History, 4th year student), Gasparyan Shirak (Department of History, 3rd year student), Margaryan Argishti (“Informatics and Applied Mathematics”, 3rd year student), Asryan Ani (Department of Foreign Language and Literature, 3rd year student), Nersessian Liana (Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, 2nd year student), Asilbekyan Nare (“Informatics and Applied Mathematics”, 2nd year student), Shahnazaryan Araik (” Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics, 2nd year student).

After a tough competition, the lecturers ‘team became the winners, awarded diplomas and souvenirs, and the students ‘team received a certificate.

TRAINING SESSION ON “LEADERSHIP” AT YSU IJEVAN BRANCH

 The first meeting of the “Leadership” training course was held at YSU Ijevan branch, initiated by “Community Center for Development” Territorial Cooperation NGO on October 15, 2018.

Three dozen employees and students of Ijevan Branch of “Yerevan State University” Foundation took part in the training course.

The training was conducted in English by the employee of the US Peace Corps “Community and Youth  Development” program, teacher, trainer and tutor William Joseph (Jody) Dosher, and YSU IB  employee Marieta Sargsyan provided simultaneous translation.

The president of the “Community Center for Development” NGO Hasmik Azibekyan delivered a welcoming speech. She introduced the trainer and emphasized that young people were future leaders, and it was of paramount importance for them to participate in similar programs.

Jody Dosher noted that he had 35 years of experience in teaching and leadership spheres since childhood, being involved in the work of his college, church and other organizations, working in different spheres ranging from restaurant business to pre-election campaigns of the US President.

For him, knowledge was an indispensible part of leadership.

He talked about the prevalence and influence of Twitter, giving a task to the participants to think of a Twitter account with an interesting name, address, and website, which they shared afterwards.

Then the trainer discussed the differences of people perception, gave examples and put forward that one of the important features of the leader was to take care of strangers.

He put forward the following steps of a true leader:

  • be there,
  • choose your attitude,
  • make someone’s day,
  • Have fun.

He also considered professional development as one of the key qualities of the leader

Speaking about Martin Luther King, he put emphasis on the spread of Christian values and the accuracy of the words and deeds.

Dosher also touched upon media tools, pointing out that leaders were looking for opportunities and apply their abilities.

Then he brought examples of a number of past and present leaders (Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, Nikol Pashinyan, Robert Kennedy, the Pope, Dalai Lama, Che Guevara, Donald Trump, Dak Prescott, Komitas, Yeghishe Charents, Henrikh Mkhitaryan), mentioned their characteristic features and presented their important deeds.

Summing up the characteristic features of the presented characters, Mr. Dosher highlighted the key features of the leader: the ability to negotiate, use the power wisely, inspire and empower others.
