On May 10 and 11, 2019, YSU Ijevan Branch hosted a training course entitled “Educational Research in the Higher Education System”, conducted by Marina Galstyan, Expert in the field of education, Founder and Director of the Educational Research and Consulting Center.
The training course aimed to provide participants with basic knowledge on educational research, as well as formulate practical skills in research.
The training was attended by the representatives of the administrative and professional staff of YSUIB, members of the Professional Education Quality Assurance Department.
The training course consisted of two modules:
On the first day of the training, the participants got acquainted with the history of educational research, development stages, methodological bases, types of research as well as ethical issues encountered in educational research and ethical principles to avoid them. During the training, a number of topical issues for the University were discussed, which could serve as a basis for further educational research (factors influencing the change in the number of university applicants, employers ‘satisfaction with the graduates’ professional skills, etc.).
On the second day, the participants got acquainted with the sequence of educational research stages, the steps needed for planning, as well as the preliminary knowledge on methods used in educational research (group discussions, interviews, etc.). Participants also had the opportunity to carry out practical work groups: 1. Developing the preliminary concepts of the educational research program (students’ satisfaction with internships); 2. relevance of unified entrance examinations by different stakeholders; 3. labor market demand survey by example of Tavush Region.
On May 8th, 2019, YSU Ijevan Branch hosted a seminar entitled “Modern Methods of Teaching”, organized by the Center for Promotion of Advanced Teaching and Young Lecturers Support.
The seminar was conducted by Assistant Professor, lecturer, Acting Head of YSUIB Department of French Language and Literature Aida Mardanyan.
Mrs. Mardanyan, speaking briefly about their recent visit to France, particularly Valence, Maestris University, introduced the differences between our and their teaching methods, its weaknesses and strengths.
Afterwards, A. Mardanyan spoke about modern teaching methods, which form the core of the learning process, connecting the intended purpose of learning and the end results.
The speaker put forward that the system of traditional and modern methods is a combination of tutorial and interrelated actions of the teacher and the learner, which provides the content of education.
Modern methods of teaching were also briefly introduced.
The seminar ended with a discussion of modern teaching methods.
On May 8th, 2019, YSU Ijevan Branch hosted a seminar on “Dilijan Fab Lab”, conducted by the project manager Mariam Nahapetyan.
The seminar was attended by a group of students, mainly students of Natural Sciences.
On the agenda were the opportunity to learn, work and implement projects in Dilijan Fab Lab and the involvement of students in the Fab Lab’s activity.
Let us remind that Fab Lab was launched at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a result of collaboration between Grassroots Invention Group and Center for Bits and Atoms. Fab Lab, namely, Fabrication Laboratory is a technology prototype for innovation and inventions that stimulates local entrepreneurship. People of all age groups, professions and interests can benefit from Fab Lab. Dilijan Fab Lab aims to provide young people from Tavush region with the appropriate means and environment to develop creativity, science and engineering.
During the seminar at YSUIB, students got acquainted with some devices and details prepared in Fab Lab.
The students suggested preparing their mid-term and graduation papers in Dilijan Fab Lab.
Thus the Branch students will soon visit Dilijan Fab Lab, will get acquainted with the equipment installed there and to take a part in the experimental training and from June to the trainings of Fab Lab.
In the course of the study, students will design and prepare with their own ideas.
